Right off the bat:

There’s a mix of both effective and ineffective ingredients in Food4Thought’s nutrient profile – and unfortunately there’s more bad than good.

On top of all this, there’s an overarching risk of side effects. Read on to see what the problems are.

Here’s our run-down of Food4Thought – we’ve put together a full summary at the end:

food4thought-side-effects

Ginkgo Biloba

A common natural nootropic thought to boost cognition.

One of the more commonly used nootropics when it comes to raising cognition – however, that doesn’t mean it’s the best.

When you look closer at the studies on Ginkgo Biloba, you realize quickly that the effects aren’t actually that reliable – and that it may even have some degree of placebo effect.

Phosphatidylserine

An all natural phospholipid that does wonders for your mind.

This is a far better choice. Phosphatidylserine is a good addition here.

Studies have shown that constant use of this nootropic can lead to positive changes in mood, and also for the prevention of cognitive decline.

N-Actely-L-Carnitine

Commonly used in fat burners for metabolism and energy – but it’s going to do no good here.

There’s no nootropic effect associated with this amino acid – especially at it’s low dosage of 50mg. Studies suggest to get the best fat burning benefits you need to to have 500 – 2500mg of this stuff for any decent outcome.

Here, it’s completely redundant.

St. John’s Wort

One of the more common nootropics that focuses more on the mind.

St. John’s Wort is more of an anti-anxiety and anti-depressant than focus or energy enhancer. It has been seen to have some good effects – but be warned, after using this nootropic, certain side effects have been reported. We’ll cover more on those in the section below.

L-Glutamine

Quite honestly, L-Glutamine will have very little effect.

Typically absorbed by our bodies from dairy, L-Glutamine is a one of the core amino acids. You’ll only get benefit from this nutrient if you are already deficient in it, and even then the effects are unreliable.

It’s been thought to reduce overall sugar cravings, but these results are purely anecdotal and not based on studies.

Dimethylaminoethanol Bitartrate (DMAE)

If you got to the store, you’ll probably come across DMAE in the beauty section – but how does it fare as a nootropic?

Answer: Not well. Studies have shown that although thought to reduce cognitive decline, the actual effects of supplementing DMAE aren’t that great. It does not work well when supplemented orally.

Bacopa Monnieri

When it comes to nootropics, Bacopa Monnieri is one of the better options.

Linked to boosting cognition via both memory and anxiety-reduction – it’s perfect for anyone looking for that clear minded and calm focus.

Vinpocetine

An extract from the Periwinkle Plant which is ideal for any supplement stack.

Vinpocetine is a good choice for anyone looking to improve memory and blood flow. This can useful with expanding your learning.

Huperzine-A

Another good choice for improving your brain’s ability to learn.

Huperzine-A has been linked to improving memory and also preventing against cognitive decline. If you want to keep your mind in tip-top shape, this is the nutrient you need to use.
