What does OptimalEffects Brain Formula do?

Made by OptimalEffects, this is an all natural nootropic that has been claimed to promote:

  • Alertness
  • Physical Energy
  • Memory Function

But how well does it really work?

In this review, we look closer at Brain Formula to see how effective it really is.

This is what you need to know:

What you need to know about the Brain Formula Stack:

It’s a proprietary blend.

This isn’t good. A propriety blend is when the ingredients used have their individual dosages hidden in favor appearing under one larger value.

This means you don’t know how much you’re getting of each ingredient, or how effective it will be overall.

Not only that, several of the ingredients used aren’t that effective – with some even causing side effects.

Here’s what you need to know.

The Ingredients:

Don’t worry – we’ve summarized it all at the end.

Not a great option.

Typically used in beauty creams, DMAE has been thought to help reduce cognitive decline – but studies have shown the results aren’t that effective.

It’s unlikely that DMAE will make much difference to your cognition – and may actually cause side effects.

We’ll go more into what risks you have from taking DMAE later.

One of the poorer amino acids.

There’s nothing special about L-Glutamine here, studies have shown that it mainly helps to reduce sugar cravings – more than it aids cognition.

If you’ve already got enough in your system (it’s in a lot of dairy products) you won’t really feel the benefits.

Green Tea

A good addition, mainly for its L-Theanine.

Promoting relaxation hormones in your body, such as GABA and serotonin, L-Theanine helps to improve focus and overall concentration.

One of the better herbs out there for cognition.

Bacopa Leaf has numerous studies that show it helps to promote cognition.

It’s main benefit is its ability to reduce anxiety and increase memory formations.

It’s a solid choice and a strong addition to Brian Formula.

Another solid nootropic – although CDP-Choline would be a stronger option.

Choline has been seen to help increase learning and is found in fatty foods like eggs.

It’s a good choice.

An anti stressor amino acid.

Tyrosine can help to reduce the stress hormone cortisol.

Cortisol is at is highest when suffering from physical or mental stress – and it can be distracting and overwhelming.

By reducing the overall amount of the hormone, Tyrosine clears your head and allows you to focus more.

A good option for calmness.

GABA has been known to cross the blood-brain barrier in your body and can strongly reduce anxiety.

Again this can help to promote calmness and allow you to focus more.

Another good cognitive booster.

Phosphatidylserine has been seen to have four main benefits; mood, focus, memory and preventing cognitive decline.

Huperzine A

Unfortunately, this addition isn’t as great.

Huperzine A is a more under researched cognitive enhancer and the full long term effects are still unknown.

Not only that, the benefits wear off quickly, with studies showing that the nutrient is easy to build a tolerance to over time.

Quick Overview: On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile when it comes to cognitive enhancement.

The main problem is the propriety blend. You don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting, or how effective it will be overall.

Not only that some of the ingredients used (like DMAE) may cause side effects, while others may not be effective overall.

It’s not your best option – and there are definitely better nootropic stacks out there.

Side Effects

The main risk here is the DMAE.

First off, studies have shown that it isn’t that effective – it shouldn’t be in this blend anyway. It’s an unnecessary risk.

The problem with it, is that it has been linked to causing birth defects.
